STEP 1 - DEFINE THE PROBLEMProblem Statement: Tablets and smart phones are great for storing and playing your favorite music, but the built-in speakers are terrible. It’s not their fault really, since they sound about as good as possible for a speaker the size of a grain of rice. Unless you use headphones or an electronic speaker arrangement of some kind, you just don’t get the enjoyment you’re looking for. There is, however, a way to get better sound without electronics or batteries of any kind. It’s called a passive speaker, and it works the same way a megaphone does. Design Statement: You must design and manufacture a passive amplifier speaker, specific to your own mobile phone/player. If you do not have one of these then it can be for someone else. STEP 2 - GENERATE CONCEPTS
TASK 2:
Investigate possible design ideas. Collect 4 ideas (Save pictures to your computer to print) that you would like to use as an inspiration to your design. Document you findings in your Engineering notebook. Making sure you answer the following questions for each design. TASK 3:
After you have completed your research you will start to brainstorm your own ideas. In part 3 of Generate concepts you will need to develop a minimum of 4 DIFFERENT THUMBNAIL SKETCHES. These sketch should be of potential ideas you would like create as a solution to the Passive Amplifier Speaker Challenge. These sketches can be 3D and/or 2D. |
STEP 3 - DEVELOP A SOLUTIONACTIVITY:
TASK 1: Create technical sketches of your chosen speaker design. These are to be DETAILED sketches of all the parts including dimensions. |
STEP 4 - CONSTRUCT & TEST PROTOTYPE
